Expanding access to internal medicine

Board-certified care, without the trip to a referral hospital.

Animal Internal Medicine (AIM) was founded in 2021 by Dr. Lauren Sikorski, DVM, DACVIM, a board-certified internal medicine specialist who has been practicing on Long Island for over a decade. AIM’s goal is to bring quality, affordable, specialized diagnostics and care to patients within the comfort of their primary-care hospital.

Instead of sending a sick pet across the island to a specialty center, the specialist comes to the clinic: abdominal ultrasound, echocardiography, ultrasound-guided sampling and a written internal medicine opinion, delivered the same day to the veterinarian who knows the patient best.

Conditions

Compassionate care for a broad range of conditions

Dr. Sikorski’s clinical interest spans all aspects of internal medicine, with a particular focus on reaching a difficult diagnosis with the fewest, most cost-effective diagnostics.

How it works

Three steps from referral to answers

  1. 1

    Your veterinarian refers

The primary-care veterinarian identifies the need for advanced imaging or a specialist opinion and submits a request to AIM.

  2. 2

    We come to the clinic

Dr. Sikorski and her technician perform the ultrasound or consultation on site, in the hospital your pet already knows.

  3. 3

    A plan, together

Findings and recommendations go back to your veterinarian the same day, and together we build the most sensible path forward.

Dr. Sikorski completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania and has practiced referral medicine since 2008. She is Fear Free certified and thrives on the challenge of reaching a difficult diagnosis with minimal diagnostics, because for many families an affordable answer is the difference between treatment and no treatment.
